Creating a piece as intricate as the Imperial Oval requires a fusion of two ancient crafts. We do not use mass-produced plastic molds; instead, every mirror begins its life as a unique wooden sculpture.
Stage 1: The Hand-Carved Master
An artisan first selects a block of dense hardwood to carve the “Master Frame.” Every laurel leaf along the oval border and the ornate acanthus crest at the top is chiseled by hand. This stage is critical: the wood must be carved with absolute precision because every individual grain and chisel mark will eventually be captured in the metal casting.
Stage 2: The Sand Casting Process
Once the wooden master is perfected, it is pressed into specialized casting sand to create a high-definition impression. This creates a “one-time-use” mold that holds the exact silhouette of the hand-carved original.
Stage 3: The Molten Transformation
Pure, architectural brass is liquified at extreme temperatures and poured into the mold. As the brass cools, it takes on the organic texture and “soul” of the wooden carving. The result is a frame with the visual complexity of fine woodwork and the indestructible weight of solid brass.
